Master's Students

Welcome back Yosuke and Axel

Welcome back to Axel (left) and Yosuke (right)

After one year, Axel and Yosuke rejoin our group for their master project.

They both will engaged in the REVEAL project. Axel will focus on developing methods to create CLCE films that are suitable for a wide range of practical applications. Yosuke will focus on the development of liquid crystal polymer fibres, designed to exhibit mechanochromic response, employing a microfluidics wet spinning technique.

New article in Crystals!

Many congratulations to Larry and the team for the latest article "Measuring the Anisotropy in Interfacial Tension of Nematic Liquid Crystals" published in Crystals.

New article on LCE shells!

Many congratulations to Anjali, Andy, and Jan for the recent article "Liquid crystal elastomer shells with topological defect-defined actuation: Complex shape morphing, opening/closing, and unidirectional rotation" published in the Journal of Applied Physics. We are also happy to share that this article is Editor's pick. Article is open access.

Welcome Xu and Xiang!

ESMP welcomes Xu and Xiang, both are doing their master thesis with us.
Xu will be working on the spontaneous adsorption and self-organization of colloid particles at fluid interfaces induced by surfactants and Xiang will focus on the preparation of liquid crystal shells by controlled phase separation in droplets.

Welcome Andy and Urša!

ursa Andy

Welcome to our new interns Andy (left) and Ur
ša (right) who have joined our team. Andy will focus on Microfluidics for Measuring the Interfacial Tensions of Liquid Crystals. While Ursa will work on the Study of topological defect transformations in LC shells using a dual confocal microscope for controlled polymerization.
