What does "lcsoftmatter" mean ?

The group’s domain name, www.lcsoftmatter.com, is derived from the terms:
liquid crystalline soft matter, or liquid crystals and soft matter, if you prefer.

It reflects the fact that we're interested in all kinds of
soft matter physics & chemistry, but our core expertise
is in the realm of soft matter with long-range order
— the so called liquid crystalline phases.

You can find such phases in many environments —

in suspensions of rod or disc shaped nanoparticles, such as
cellulose nanocrystals [CNCs], or carbon nanotubes [CNTs]…

in biological matter, like cell membranes,
or highly concentrated solutions of DNA…

in small synthetic molecules, like those which make
up the thin responsive fluid layers
in your laptop display or mobile phone

& in concentrated soap solutions,
such as commercial shampoo, and conditioners
